5/5 ⭐️ | A POETIC RHAPSODY OF THE SOUL by Ron Roman
A Poetic Rhapsody of the Soul is a compilation of poems written in many different forms, ranging from haiku to prose. Some have a beautiful rhythmic structure and an exceptional flow. Reading this book reminded me of why I love poetry.
One of the things I especially enjoyed about this collection is the variety. Some of the poems are filled with humor, while others create such vivid imagery that you feel as though you are actually there experiencing the moment yourself. The poem “Winter Cottage,” for example, gives you that wonderful sense of being transported into the setting, and its ending is simply “indeed good.”
The author has a wonderful ability to make each poem understandable while still giving it meaning and depth.
I also found the author’s explanation of his “Haiku-esque” poems particularly interesting and educational. Ron Roman explains that traditional Japanese haiku follow a three-line structure traditionally associated with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Some of his poems are structured more closely to senryu, which often focuses on human nature and shortcomings and can include elements of sardonic humor.
I appreciated having this information at the beginning of the book because it gives the reader a greater understanding and appreciation of the author’s knowledge of poetry. It is evident that Ron Roman brings both knowledge and skill to this collection, and that he has thoughtfully explored different poetic forms and styles.
I highly recommend A Poetic Rhapsody of the Soul to anyone who enjoys poetry or is interested in exploring the genre. It is a diverse and enjoyable collection that reminds us of the many ways poetry can express the human experience.
